The 'Through The Lens' Halifax Tour Schedule 2012:
About Halifax, Nova Scotia
Halifax is the largest city in Atlantic Canada and was founded in 1749 by the English settlers. The city was strategically built under a glacial drumlin where a National Historic Site, the Halifax Citadel Fortress is now perched. From this vantage point one can see the entire downtown core of Halifax and the city harbour, which is the world’s second largest natural city harbours. The city of Halifax is surrounded by water and the harbour boasts a large number of personal pleasure craft including yachts and colourful sailboats. Throughout much of Halifax you will find a number of historic homes and buildings that date back to the early 1800’s that were built in the Georgian and Victorian style.
Situated near the popular shopping district of Spring Garden Road is the Victorian style Public Gardens. These gardens are home to various trees, shrubs, flowers, fountains, statues and a grand bandstand. Within the gardens live a number of fauna such as House Sparrows, European Starlings, and Rock Doves. There are also three species of ducks: Black ducks, Mallards and Muscovys. The combination of natural beauty and historic sites make Halifax and very picturesque city with numerous photo opportunities.
